FAQs

We receive questions, quite often, about our jewelry. Most of our jewelry is .925 Sterling Silver. However, we do offer gold plated, gold filled and base metals jewelry. In order to help answer these questions, we have put the most asked questions here for you.

What metals are used in your jewelry?
Our jewelry that is described as .925 Silver Jewelry is made from a minimum of 92.5% pure Silver alloyed with other metals to make the desired 925 Sterling Silver. We are not using base metal with some silver plating. All our items are genuine .925 Sterling Silver.

How should you clean and care for your Silver Jewelry?
The biggest enemy of silver jewelry are chemical products. Taking care of your silver basically means avoiding any exposure of your silver to household chemicals when cleaning with bleach or ammonia for example, or going to pool in chlorinated water. These substances might damage your silver.
All silver oxidizes when exposed to oxygen. The silver will start to darken, but you can easily clean this off by rubbing the silver with a Silver Cleaning Cloth. These cloths can be found at most big box stores like Wal-Mart and Target, as well as Amazon.com.

What is Rhodium Plated jewelry?
Rhodium is a very expensive metal, part of the platinum family. Silver and gold is often plated with rhodium to add shine to your jewelry piece.

What is Gold Plated jewelry?
Gold Plated jewelry, or Vermeil, means a thin layer of gold over sterling silver or fine silver. The plating is done by dipping the jewelry in gold, and applying electricity while doing so, causing a layer of gold to be bonded onto the silver.

How long will the gold plating last?
If worn every day, your gold plated jewelry should not start to tarnish for over a year. It is very important to clean your gold plated jewelry  by gently rubbing the jewelry with a clean cotton ball or soft cloth to remove any dirt, oils, or any other thing the jewelry came in contact through everyday wear. We actually remove our gold plated rings before washing our hands, or placing them in water, to extend the life of the jewelr.

What is Gold Filled jewelry?
Gold Filled jewelry is jewelry that is made with a base metal or silver, with sheets of solid gold placed over them. The jewelry is then placed under intense pressure causing the gold to bond to the metal.
Unlike gold plated jewelry, this type of jewelry is very durable and long lasting. Most pieces will last from 10 to 25 years or longer, depending on the care taken with it.

What does base metal mean in the jewelry description?
Base Metals are any metals NOT made from precious metals such as gold or silver. Base metals include aluminum, copper, lead, nickel, tin and zinc. In costume jewelry, base metals are often plated with a very thin layer of gold, silver, nickel, rhodium or other metals on the surface of the bead, finding, chain or other component.
We strongly recommend keeping your Base Metal jewelry out of water. This jewelry should be cleaned with a soft cloth after wearing to extend the life of the jewelry.
